A shorter entry on Christmas Show day produced a very nice trade all round, much improved on last week. A bit of quality always helps and today we certainly had that, with the Overall Champion, very kindly sponsored by Red Bull Farming, going to a pair of superb 9mo Red Limousin Heifers from G.F. Cole & Son of Banham selling to £1080 to Cook & Colman.  The same vendor also had Reserve Champion with another super Red Limousin Steer, selling for £1200 to Brian Ward.  Many thanks to our judge, Mr. James Loveday for doing a very professional job.  Generally, trade is going to be sticky for anything second rate, due to the very high costs of feed, fuel and electricity. The beef market is also under a slight bit of pressure, although things do not look too bad long term.

A steer from R Savage sold to 228ppkg or £1390 and a Lincoln Red Heifer from John Carrick made 203ppkg £1431

An entry of in calf Cows and Heifers from J. Fryett were very well received and sold well, generally around the £900 mark and up to £1100 for younger sorts.

A lot of enjoyment was had in the calf section and a flying trade ensued - totally against the national trend. Many thanks to the judge, Mr. Roger Long, who awarded the Championship to CW Potter with a B.Blue Bull which went to sell for £425 for Dennis Wilson.  CW Potter also took 2nd prize with another B.Blue selling at £415, again to Dennis Wilson.  3rd prize went to Alex Dann with a B.Blue Bull  calf selling to the judge at £295.
1st prize in the Native Class went to David Parsons with an Angus Bull calf that also took Reserve Champion, sellling for £290 to John Watson.
1st prize in the Suckler Class was taken by John Goddard with a pure bred Simmental heifer calf selling to Mr. Last for £240.

Back to back sales at Norwich with the focus on the Christmas Fatstock Show this week, highlighting local farmers young and older.

Alburgh Lamb again winning the trophy with best pair of 45kg lambs at £260 and 577.80ppkg and bought by the judge Mr. Mike Keeler, who also bought the Reserve Champion pair from J. Bradshaw-Hird and Champion Young Handlers Lamb from Arron Denny.  Commercial Lambs selling well and wanted.

Again this year we were honoured by the support of Norwich County Council and the presence of the Lord Mayor of Norwich, Dr. Kevin Maguire and his consort and also the Sherrif of Norwich, Caroline Jarrold and her deputy.
They enjoyed mixing with Farmers and presenting rosettes and trophys and especially the Young Handlers
