It might be a beef Christmas for obvious reasons and today illustrated what a strong product Beef is. The global shortage of protein continues to bite, as does the energy shortage and prices continue to rise. Have they reallised where food comes from yet ?

Cull Cattle (30)
Excellent entry and some good cows forward sold on a similar trade. Meated cows in the 150p to 190ppkg range and feeding cows were sort after up to 210ppkg or £1418 from Exning Estates

BREEDING CATTLE
Some stars on the stage today, with a 7yo Pedigree Charolais Bull from Holkham Estate selling to £2760, a Pedigree British Blue Bull from Kiln Lodge Cattle to £2400 and Pedigree Hereford Cows and Calves from Dr. Leisa Freeman to £2100.
A tremendous run of 15 Black Hereford Heifers from Parker Cattle Ltd, all scanned in calf to a Limousin Bull for January sold to £1700 and averaged £1490. SG Lutkin & Son sold in calf Hereford Cows to £1375

(52) Calves
The calf trade has collapsed - OH DEAR IT HAS NOT !! A very good market today. A closely fought battle saw R. Paterson come out on top with a Charolais x at £365 followed by Alex Dann with Blues to £360. CB & SC Gapp sold Herefords to £272 while Angus from Alex Dann reached £280.

Today continued with good numbers forward and a good crowd and 100% clearance of all sheep and decent prices achieved.

Nice entry again, but today man more rare breed lambs forward including Shetland and Borary to mention a few, though the better Continentals still at a premium and in demand £80 to £98. Top price today went to A. Burrell with strong Texel lambs to £98.00
