Cull Cattle (8 )

We all know that the cull cow price is on fire at the moment and we saw heifers to 221ppkg and 213ppkg and cows to 155ppkg

Important notice to Farmers - please get Farm Assured if you can, it makes a real difference.

(45) Calves

Maybe a slightly easier trade at the top and although not quite the strength of calves as usual but overall a very, very strong trade !
CW Potter had the top price with Blues to £385 and £380. R. Paterson had some superb Limousins selling up to £365 for bulls and £305 for heifers. David Parsons reached £330 for a Blue and £300 for an A.Angus.  Alex Dann was up to £330 for Blue heifers while Herefords from CB & SC Gapp sold to £305 and Eddy Brighams made £300.

SHEEP (1049)

Before we start, I would like to thank all the staff today for their hard work ensuring the market functioned well with increased numbers, a few less staff and weather conditions.

Much more stock entered today. Many farmers off loading lambs and worrying prices may drop further and also the ever increasing food prices, but the higher numbers of culls was due to a very high demand in the industry.

PRIME HOGGS (648
Trade similar to last markets prices though more lambs on offer and most markets in the week were much easier. Today Mr. D. Gooderham topped at 296.80ppkg and Alburgh Lamb at £135.00 per head.

STANDARD LAMBS (169) 234.20 TO 296.80 AV 254.88 £81.00 TO £100.00 AV £90.60

HEAVY + LAMBS (119) 216.00 TO 248.00 AV 227.89 £108.00 TO £134.50 AV £122.36

(294) Cull Ewes

A very good show of meaty ewes forward and my rally call worked, with bigger numbers attracting more buyers.  T & H Sheldrake topping the day at £182.

£1.00 to £182.00 av £125.65

CULL RAMS (9)
£100  to £205.00 av £149.00

STORE HOGGS (95)

Much smaller entry than previous markets with many rare breeds among the entry, but tup lambs from Mr Bullard of Gressenhall topping at £90.00

EWES & LAMBS (8)

JM Fryatt sold a young ewe with 2 lambs at foot to £56.00 per life.
