New buyers and elevated deadweight quotations brought a fast trade and overall average of 158ppkg - yes that is correct !! and an average per head of £1134. Top price of £1582 (184ppkg) went to Bures Farm Partners. S & J Pilch sold Angus cows to 169ppkg £1504 and Richard Beck reached £1445 (174ppgk) for a Charolais Cow. Tom Kemp Farms got to 172ppg or £1410 for a Simmental Cow.

An excellent entry produced a lot of interest and big prices, topped off at £2300 for a Pedigree Limousin Cow and 1mo Bull Calf from RM Shaw & AJ Goate. Other highlights were £1800 for a South Devon Cow and Bull Calf from Christine Hanton and £1750 for a Simmental Cow with Twin Bull calves from Lambert & Co. Hereford Cows and calves made to £1525 for LF & RN Andrews and in calf Limousin Cows to £1125 for RW Revell

Calf numbers are tight and the law of supply and demand means that prices are rather high, in fact, after 34 years of selling calves, these are the highest i have achieved. Blue calves from CW Potter sold to £475, £475, £465, £460. Alex Dann made £445, £440, £410. Limousin Bulls from R. Paterson sold to £330 and heifers to £295. Angus bulls from FW Parsons reached £290 with £275 for RC Rout. Herefords from LG Brigham made to £270 and £250 for Tom Crawford. Black and Whites to a whopping £280 for R. Paterson and £160 for Alex Dann

Sheep were generally down throughout the week, but the trade here at Norwich was better than most markets on the week. Less numbers forward today with many farmers having grass down and talk of the trade easing.

Very fierce bidding for all categories of lambs, especially 40-45kg. Good trade throughout topping at £170 per head for J S Barber and 341.46ppkg for Haynord Gardens.
